RSA Bereavement Plan

Life insurance to cover your funeral expenses
One of the sad facts of life is that, as the years go by, we inevitably lose the comradeship of members who pass away. Losing a loved one or a good friend is never easy and can be made more difficult if family members also have to cope with unexpected funeral expenses.

The average funeral bill can quickly mount to well over $5,000 and usually needs to be paid for well before the estate is settled or life insurance can be paid out. RSA Bereavement Plan is a simple and affordable way to ensure loved ones are not left with unexpected funeral expenses.

What does RSA Bereavement Plan cover?

RSA Bereavement Plan provides accidental death cover from the day your fully completed acceptance form is received. In the case of death by natural causes in the first 2 years, 100% of premiums will be refunded. After 2 years full cover is provided for both accidental death and death by natural causes.

Consider the benefits for you and those you'll leave behind

  • Your premium will never increase
  • There are no medical questions or examinations - your acceptance is guaranteed
  • Reduced rates if you are a non-smoker
  • Your cover level will remain the same irrespective of any health deterioration
  • Your money will be made available right at the time when your family needs it - within 48 hours, not weeks or even months later
  • If you and your partner apply together you will both receive a 12% discount on your premiums

$5,000 - $15,000 tax-free cover
Benefits are payable on death and can either be paid to your estate, or directly to a person you nominate. Because you'll want this cover to be of immediate help in your family's time of need, once the completed claim requirements are received, the payment will usually be made within 48 hours. All you have to do is choose the amount of cover you'd like your loved ones to receive. You can choose any cover level from $5,000 - $15,000 - the cover level chosen needs to be in $1,000 increments.

Premium payments
Premiums are based on your age, gender, smoking status and the cover level you choose. You can pay your premiums monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly by credit card and direct debit, or quarterly, half-yearly or yearly by cheque.

Spouse / Partner and Relative protection
RSA Bereavement Plan is also available to member's partners and relatives provided they are aged between 16 and 75. When you apply together you will both receive a 12% discount on your premiums.

A special bequest made in your name
No matter which level of cover you choose, Asteron will also make a special $200 bequest in your name to the RSA branch where you were a member. The $200 bequest is in addition to the amount you're covered for.

30 day no obligation review
Following the receipt of your acceptance form we'll send you a policy document, which you have 30 days to review. If you are not entirely happy with your policy, you can return it within the 30 day period for a full refund of any premiums paid.

What isn't covered?
A claim can be refused if the death of a person insured occurs by suicide within the first 13 months of the protection start date or the date we restart the policy.

Joining couldn't be easier!
Simply click here for a personalised quote, then print and complete your acceptance form, and return it to Asteron, PO Box 3369 Wellington. Your spouse, partner or relative can complete the same form too. Alternatively you can contact Asteron on 0800 11 55 96 and complete your acceptance over the phone.

RSA Guaranteed Life Insurance

Life insurance without any medicals or health questions.

As we get older the more we appreciate life. And the more we appreciate the importance of having life insurance. Whether it covers debts, pays a mortgage or provides for family, life insurance is there to give your loved ones security when they need it the most.

However, once you've reached 55, life insurance can often become complicated. From then on it seems the older you get the more 'age barriers' insurance companies may put between you and the kind of cover you would like.

One of these barriers can be your health. Quite often it's associated with more expensive premiums and lower payouts.

We don't think that's fair so RNZRSA and Asteron have worked together to create a simple life insurance policy with RSA members in mind. It's called RSA Guaranteed Life Insurance.

RSA Guaranteed Life Insurance is available to RSA members and their partners, aged between 55 and 79. The great thing about this life insurance policy is that your acceptance to the plan is guaranteed.

Even if you are aged over 79 we can provide a quotation on request – contact Asteron

Your health is your business

The days of being poked and prodded or asked embarrassing questions to get life insurance are over. Unlike a lot of other policies, you don't have to take a medical examination or answer health questions to be covered by RSA Guaranteed Life Insurance.

RSA Accident Support Plan

Helping you recover from an accident
While no one expects to have an accident, some of the bills that arrive after an accident are also just as unexpected.

However minor the injury, there are always costs involved, and they are not always medical. What if your injury stops you driving, or means you cannot walk? Some of the unexpected bills could be taxi fares or home help. Accidents generally cost far more than we think, and while ACC will 'help you' with the bills, they will not pay for everything.

What does RSA Accident Support Plan cover?

RSA Accident Support Plan is a renewable 15 year term policy covering:

Accidental injuries
RSA Accident Support Plan provides a cash lump sum payment if you should suffer an injury from an accident (including permanent disability, fractures, burns and dislocations). For example, if you were to fall and break your hip, you could receive $10,000, which may provide valuable assistance in a time of need. A full list of all the different injuries covered is below.

$20,000 Accidental Death Benefit
As a valuable added feature, RSA Accident Support Plan also includes an accidental death benefit of $20,000. This money could be a great help to your family at a time of emotional stress. It may be used to help pay funeral expenses or to pay off any debts and tie up loose ends.

Up to $200 a day for hospital stays
If you have to stay in hospital for more than 48 hours because of an accidental injury not listed in the benefit table, we'll pay you a hospitalisation benefit of up to $200 a day to a maximum of $2,000 (Superior Plan).
