ANZAC Day Air Show at Hood Aerodrome
The Vintage Aviator Ltd plan to run 3-4 small WWI air shows per year
with the end of season show coinciding with ANZAC Day (if the weather
permits!) We hope this show will become a regular event and each year,
as part of commemorating ANZAC day, we would like to invite all Returned
Service men and woman to the event free of charge to enjoy an afternoon
of flying and handling displays.
Our Air Show comprises of the WWI aircraft of the Vintage Aviator collection
- fighter scouts, bombers and reconnaissance aircraft and in particular
this show features the first public flight of the FE2b Bomber - the only
FE2b in existence, operating the only airworthy Beardmore engine in the
world today.
Although we usually only fly the aircraft of the collection, the RNZAF
expressed a wish to participate in the commemorative show and are sending
their Harvard to participate in a solo handling display
Our shows are small events held on the airfield at Hood Aerodrome. Spectator
parking is on the airfield in the Display area so no one has too far to
walk!
We run Vintage vehicle rides for the children from 12.00pm - 1.30pm and
the Air Show begins at 1.30pm finishing at 4.00pm on ANZAC Day.
Archives New Zealand open on ANZAC Day
Archives New Zealand will be open on ANZAC Day, from 8.00am to 1.00pm.
Giving people the opportunity to see An Impressive Silence, the exhibition
currently running that details the Public Memory and Personal Experience
of the Great War.
The exhibition is in two rooms and gives voice to New Zealand's Great
War experience and memory through the official and unofficial representations
of the war and coming home, along with some of the personal realities
of the grief and loss faced by individuals, families and communities across
the nation.
